Obituary for Charlotte Aileen Smallwood

Funeral service for Charlotte Ball Smallwood, 89, of Fletcher, Oklahoma, will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at the Fletcher Christian Church with Jim Hall, officiating. Burial will follow at the Fletcher Cemetery under the direction of the Fletcher Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Smallwood passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017 in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 89.

Charlotte Aileen (Zisman) Ball Smallwood was born December 18, 1927 in a 2-room house, east of Fletcher to William (Bill) and Edith (Cole) Zisman. Charlotte was christened as a baby in the Lutheran Church and then joined the Christian Church at the age of 14. Charlotte attended a little country school named Mt. View for 3 years. She transferred to Fletcher Schools in 1936-1937. During her time at Fletcher, Charlotte made great grades and was on the Honor Roll all 4 years. She graduated in 1945 and then went on to attend Central State Teachers College. After one semester, she transferred to Cameron State College to be close to her sweetheart, Robert Ball. Charlotte and Robert were married on January 25, 1946. The two were married for 55 years and were blessed with 5 wonderful children: Bobby, Frankie, Becky, William, and Ann. Charlotte was a teacher for 1 year and then worked for Lawton Mfg. (Haggar’s) for 10 years. After Robert passed away in 2001, she stayed on the farm until she could no longer care for it. She sold the farm and moved to Elgin. Charlotte married Bruce Smallwood on July 6, 2007. Bruce was very good to Charlotte and they had 3 great years together before he passed away in 2010. Charlotte was a wonderful woman and will be dearly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by 3 sons: Bobby Ball and his wife Judy, Frankie Ball and his wife Jeanette, and William Ball and his wife Christine, all of Sterling; 2 daughters: Becky Fitzgerald and her husband Fred, of Rush Springs and Ann Ellsworth, of Sterling; 11 grandchildren: Audra Jung and her husband Steve, Mandy Mandrell, Frankie Ball and his wife Ashley, Jeanette Bowles and her husband Bryan, Bubba Fitzgerald, Summer Ladwig and her husband Shawn, Will Ball and his wife Vanessa, Shelby Erickson and her husband Chad, Clint Ball, Heather Churchwell, and Whitney Turpin and her husband Josh; and 20 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents: William and Edith Zisman; 2 husbands: Robert Ball and Bruce Smallwood; 2 brothers: Jerome Zisman and Allen Zisman and his wife Frances; and 1 granddaughter, Laura Fitzgerald.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Fletcher Christian Church.
