Obituary for Claude Mansel

Funeral service for Claude Daniel Mansel, 83, of Elgin, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Crossroads Baptist Church in Elgin with Pastor Larry Thoma and Pastor Curtis Erwin, officiating. Burial will follow at the Elgin Memorial Cemetery under the direction of the Elgin Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Elgin.

Mr. Mansel passed away on Sunday, December 10th at his home in Elgin surrounded by his family.

Claude Daniel Mansel, 83, was born October 23, 1934, on a farm southeast of Fletcher, Oklahoma, to Joseph Daniel (JD) and Addie (Jeffreys) Mansel. He was raised on the family farm southeast of Elgin and remained in the area his entire life. Claude attended the Mistletoe Country School near the farm where he was raised and later graduated from Elgin High School in 1954. Claude married his high school sweetheart, Alma Jean Ezell, on June 11, 1954, at the First Baptist Church in Elgin, Oklahoma. They were married for 63 years and blessed with three loving daughters Claudia, Cindy, and Melissa, who were his pride and joy. His first job as a high school student was driving a school bus route. After graduating high school, he worked at Ft Sill building helicopters. He then went to work for Dolese Brothers Co, Fitch Industrial Welding Supply, and the Corporation Commission. He was County Commissioner for Eastern District #1 for 16 years. Along with his various jobs, he also farmed and ran cattle throughout his life. After 4 terms of service as County Commissioner, Claude retired to spend more time with his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He took pride in his family and never missed a sporting event or special occasion. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Elgin, OK.

He is survived by his wife, Alma Jean Mansel, of the home; 3 daughters: Claudia Barker and her husband, Melvin, of Elgin; Cindy McNeil and her husband Greg, of Chickasha; Melissa Hays and her husband Jeff, of Fletcher; 7 grandchildren: Justin and his wife, Amber; Shane and his wife, Malynda; Tanner and his wife, JJ; Ashley and her husband, Jacob; Eric and his wife Sarah; Evan, and Kaylee; 11 great-grandchildren: Hunter, Gunner, Hayden, Haylee, Gage, Holden, Lilly, Colt, Londyn, Brett, and Remi; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents: Joseph Daniel (JD) and Addie Mansel; 1 sister: Mae Vasil; 4 brothers: Bob, Don, Billy, and Jack.
