Obituary for Doris Jane Dodson

Funeral service for Doris Jane Dodson, 88, of Elgin, Oklahoma, will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at the Crossroads Baptist Church in Elgin with Pastor Curtis Erwin and Pastor Larry Thoma, officiating. Burial will follow at the Old Elgin Cemetery under the direction of the Elgin Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Elgin Funeral Home. Jane passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at her home in Elgin at the age of 88. Doris Jane (Bowling) Dodson was born January 31, 1929 in Cement, Oklahoma to Charley and Myrtie (Skinner) Bowling. She attended Elgin High School where she played the drums in the school band and then later graduated in 1947. She went to Cosmetology School and became a licensed cosmetologist. Jane owned and operated a beauty shop for many years before going to work as a cosmetology instructor for Aladdin and Edna Hennessee. She enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines. Jane worked as a care giver for several people and a medical assistant for Dr. Barroso for 17 years. Her last job was working for her grandson at Dale Miller Enterprises. Jane was a devout Christian and used her life as a testimony to many people. She taught Sunday School for over 35 years. She was one of the founding members of Crossroads Baptist Church. She is survived by 3 daughters: Donna Miller and her husband Tommie, of Lawton, Glenda Gabbard and her husband Mike, of Elgin, and Nita Cork and her husband Jack, of Cache; 2 sons: Joe Miller and his wife Cicci, of Las Vegas and Rodney Dodson and his wife Cheryl, of Elgin; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents: Charley and Myrtie Bowling; her husband, Kenneth Dodson; 1 son, Kenneth Ray Dodson; and 4 sisters: Vera Strange, Merle Ross, Fern Trammell, and Jeffie Abbott. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Crossroads Baptist Church World Hunger Fund or the Paradise Valley Baptist Church Van Fund.
