Obituary for Doris Jean Sanders

Funeral service for Doris Jean Sanders, 88, of Sterling, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at the Sterling United Methodist Church with Pastor Matt Hester, officiating. Burial will follow at Sterling Cemetery under the direction of Fletcher Funeral Home. Viewing will be held at Fletcher Funeral Home starting Sunday at 1:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.

Doris Jean Sanders went to be with her Savior Thursday, September 14, 2017.

Doris was born December 31, 1928 in Sterling, Oklahoma to Walter and Rena (Bay) Lovett. She was raised on the family farm Southwest of Sterling and attended Sterling High School. She married Earl Sanders in 1947 and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on March 15th. Doris Jean and Earl made their home near Sterling, Oklahoma where they raised their four kids: Linda, Nancy, Dennis, and Keith. Doris cooked in the Sterling school cafeteria for 11 years, from which she retired. Doris Jean’s most important job was being a dedicated farmwife and homemaker. She especially loved gardening, canning, and reading. She delighted in making a pan of her famous cinnamon rolls. Her hospitality was tremendous. Grandma loved her grandchildren and enjoyed hearing their stories and receiving their letters. She was a great audience for a humorous story and loved to laugh.

Doris is survived by her children; 2 sons: Dennis E. Sanders and his wife Julie; and W. Keith Sanders and his wife Tracie, of Sterling; 2 daughters: Linda Jean Pinchback, of Marlow and Nancy E. Vaught, of Edmond; 1 brother, Douglas Lovett and his wife Rose Elaine, of Sterling; 6 grandchildren: Ronda Tipton and her husband Will; Roger Pinchback; Heath Sanders and his wife Ashley; Haylee Singleton and her husband Gayrian; Allie Bartlett and her husband Jon; and Jillian Vaught; 5 great grandchildren: Jenna and Reese Wetzel; Easton and Mia Tipton; Callee Singleton; and Ivy Bartlett; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband: Earl (Son) Sanders; her parents: Walter and Rena Lovett; 2 son-in-laws: Ronny Pinchback and John Vaught; 4 brothers: Ray Lovett and his wife Helen Lovett, Dorman Lovett and his wife Helen, Everett Lovett, and Oliver (Shorty) Lovett; 2 sisters: Wanda Booth and her husband Orbin, and Bonnie Webb and her husband Glendon; nephew: Gary Lovett.

Memorial contributions can be made in Doris Sanders’ name to UMW- Sterling First United Methodist Church.
