Obituary for Douglas Allen Cottrell

Funeral service for Douglas (Doug) Cottrell, 55, of Fletcher, Oklahoma, will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2017, at the Fletcher High School Gymnasium with Pastor Randy Cocheran, officiating. Burial will follow at the Paradise Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Fletcher Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Fletcher Funeral Home. Mr. Cottrell passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 in Fletcher, Oklahoma at the age of 55. Douglas Allen Cottrell was born October 1, 1961 in Cyril, Oklahoma to Teddy and Linda (Hargrove) Cottrell. He grew up in Fletcher and graduated from Fletcher High School in 1979. Doug married Glenda Rowe on October 17, 1980. The two were married for 36 years and were blessed with 2 children. Doug began his career with TDS Telecom in 1984 as a lineman. Over the next 32 years, he worked his way up to become the Field Services Manager for Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri. Doug was an active member of his community where he served as a City Council Member, a volunteer firefighter, and as a member of the Lion�s Club. His love for racing began with bicycle races as a child and then led up to motorcycles and cars. After his son was old enough to begin racing, Doug took on the role of pit crew chief and coach. Doug passed on his racing knowledge to both his son and his grandsons. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was involved in all of his kid�s activities such as coaching tball and softball for many summers. Doug was a well respected man and touched many lives. He will be missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Cottrell, of the home; 1 son, Derek Cottrell and his wife Alyssa, of Fletcher; 1 daughter, Ashton Cottrell, of Tulsa; his parents: Teddy and Linda Cottrell, of Fletcher; 1 sister, Sherry Harless and her husband Sam, of Fletcher; and 4 grandchildren: Brock Cottrell, Cooper Cottrell, Bentley Cranfill, and Zoey Cottrell.
