Obituary for Sylvester E. Wooldridge

Funeral service for Sylvester Wooldridge, 91, of Sterling, Oklahoma, will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 220 N. A. St. in Sterling, OK, with Father Timothy Ruckel, officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Ann�s Catholic Cemetery under the direction of the Elgin Funeral Home. A wake service will be held 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Elgin Funeral Home Chapel, 602 A. St. in Elgin, OK. Visitation will be held Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Wooldridge passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017 in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 91. Sylvester Edward Wooldridge was born February 1, 1926 in Elgin, Oklahoma to Sylvester and Anna Marie (Logsdon) Wooldridge. He attended Midway School for 8 years, then 2 years at Elgin, and then graduated from Fletcher High School in 1943. Sylvester married Myrtle Schettler on January 28, 1952. The two were married for 65 years and were blessed with 8 children. He worked as a carpenter for several years before becoming employed at the APCO Refinery in Cyril until it closed in 1987. He enjoyed living on his farm and raising cattle and crops. Sylvester was a member of the St. Ann�s Catholic Church in Elgin. After moving to Sterling, he became a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Sterling. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Wooldridge, of the home; 5 sons: Charles Edward Wooldridge, Albert Andrew Wooldridge, Leo Arnold Wooldridge, Paul Joseph Wooldridge, and Robert Matthew Wooldridge; 3 daughters: Jo Ann Landoll, Rose Mary McDonald, and Catherine Marie Delk; 13 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: Sylvester and Anna Marie Wooldridge; 3 brothers: James Walter Wooldridge, Thomas Nathan Wooldridge, and Sylvester Charles Wooldridge; and 2 sisters: Dorothy Marie Arena and Beatrice Agnes Wooldridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Sterling.
