Obituary for Walter Ray Lovett

Graveside service for Walter Ray Lovett, 97, of Sherman, Texas, will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Fletcher Cemetery with Pastor Rodney Campbell, officiating. Arrangements will be under the direction of the Fletcher Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Lovett passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017 in Sherman, TX at the age of 97. Walter Ray Lovett was born January 17, 1920 in Sterling, OK to Walter Henry and Rena Marie (Bay) Lovett. He grew up in Sterling where he graduated from high school. After graduation, Ray attended Cameron College until joining the United States Navy during World War II. He returned to Cameron College and completed his Associates Degree after being honorably discharged. Ray married Helen Huddleston on February 15, 1947. The two were married for 57 years and were blessed with two sons. Ray and Helen moved to Denison, TX where he worked on the Perrin Airforce Base as a jet mechanic. In 1971, they moved to Lubbock, TX and Ray went to work as an electrician on the Reese Airforce Base until retiring in 1992. He moved to Sherman, TX in 2012 to be with his son and daughter in law. Ray enjoyed music, tracing his family�s genealogy, building, and tinkering with anything electronic. He was a wonderful man and will be missed by all those who knew him. He is survived by his son, Terry Lovett and his wife Donna of Sherman, TX; 1 brother, Doug Lovett and his wife Rose, of Sterling; 1 sister, Doris Jean Sanders and her husband Son, of Sterling; 4 grandchildren: John Lovett, Elizabeth Starr and her husband Chris, Heather Balladares, and Amber Gamble and her husband Trevor and 4 great grandchildren: Conner and Abby Balladares and Kaylee and Hayden Gamble. He is preceded in death by his parents: Walter H. and Rena Marie Lovett; his wife, Helen Lovett; 1 son, Gary Lovett; 2 sisters: Bonnie Webb and Wanda Booth; 3 brothers: Oliver (Shorty) Lovett, Everett Lovett, and Dorman Lovett.
