Joyce Cross, 72, of Sterling, Oklahoma, lost her battle to cancer and went home to be with her Lord surrounded by family on September 28, 2017. Joyce was a 1963 graduate of Elgin High School. She accepted Christ at an early age and served as an active member of Sterling United Methodist Church for over 50 years. During that time, she was a Sunday school and vacation bible school teacher, Church secretary/treasurer, member of United Methodist Women, director of numerous Christmas programs, Cub Scout leader, and fervent prayer warrior. She loved her Lord and her Church and it brought great joy to her to serve and meet the needs of others. Joyce retired in 2005 from Great Plains Technology Center after 25 years of service and cherished the relationships she developed with her co-workers and her contribution to the fulfillment of the mission of the school. Prior to that she was employed at Lawton Machine Shop and was a substitute teacher. Joyce loved children and invested significant time in the lives of numerous young people as a 4-H leader. She wrote speeches and demonstrations for many kids and worked with them individually to develop confidence and communication skills that would be of lifelong benefit. Her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her grandchildren. She always put family above anything else and was a very generous and caring wife/mother/Nana/auntie. Joyce loved family holidays and having everyone together. She worked tirelessly and meticulously to make everything perfect for all. She made everyone feel special in her own unique way, whether through cooking that favorite dish or spending hours shopping (one of her favorite past times) to find just the right gift. Everyone knew Nana was going to have something special for them. Joyce loved to make scrapbooks for her grandchildren with the thousands of pictures she had taken of them at their many activities. She never missed a ballgame, dance recital, school play, or any other activity of her grandchildren and was always waiting with anticipation for the next event. She also loved to travel, sew, bake, and play dominoes. She was a great example to all and leaves a tremendous legacy and will be greatly missed.

Joyce is survived by her husband Gene Cross. She is also survived by her two sons, Greg Williams and his wife Tammy of Cedar Hill, TX and Ted Williams and his wife Janice of Olustee, OK; two daughters, Michelle Sparks and her husband Mike of Chickasha, OK and Heather Morris and her husband Vinnie of Allen, TX; two sisters, Darlene Kirk and her husband Steve of Apache, OK and Connie Holt and her husband Ronny of Sterling, OK; thirteen grandchildren, Morgan, Parker, and Tatum Williams, Cody Williams and his wife Ashley, Reno Williams, Alex and Chase Sparks, Jacey, Joey, and Julia Morris, and Ryley, Cooper, and Peyton Cross; and two great-grandchildren, Gracie and Sadie Williams. She is also survived by very special nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Junior and Evelyn (Mayhugh) Bowden, one brother Royce Bowden, and husband Ronald “Bub” Williams.
