Obituary for Burl David Mansel

Celebration of life for Burl Mansel, 84, of Elgin will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Crossroads Baptist Church, Elgin, with Pastor Curtis Erwin and Pastor Larry Thoma officiating. Burial will follow at Elgin Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Thursday from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm. Family will be greeting friends on Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Elgin Funeral Home.

Mr. Mansel passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018 in Lawton at the age of 84.

Burl David Mansel was born east of Elgin on the family farm on October 9, 1934 to Frank and Thelma (Nolen) Mansel. He attended Elgin Public Schools where he graduated in 1952. Burl married Donna Dorris on February 15, 1955. They were married 63 years and were blessed with 3 children. He worked as a self-employed carpenter for many years. He retired at the age of 80. He was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church, Elgin. He loved his New York Yankees, visiting at the local coffee shop, watching his grandkids’ sporting events, and playing dominoes. He was a beloved husband, dad, brother, Papa, uncle, cousin, and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Donna, of the home; Son, Steve Mansel and Patti Mansel; Daughter Janet McDonald; Son Roger Mansel and his wife, Terri, all of Elgin.
1 brother, James Mansel and his wife, Rita, and 1 sister, Shirley Nickell, all of Elgin.
6 Grandchildren - Jr Lindsey and his wife, Mary, of Apache; Kristen Molloy and her husband, Aaron, of Elgin; Sarah Mansel and Amy Pennington of Collinsville; Brandon McDonald and Sarah Vrla of Edmond; Brett McDonald of Yukon, Ashley McDonald and Shane Young of Minco.
8 Great Grandchildren- Tito, Taylor, Danny, Hunter, Maddux, Madison, Gracie, and Brinley
3 Great-Great Grandchildren- Braylee, Brynlee, and Bowen
Special family friends, Barbara Sue Dodson and family, and Donna Shadoan; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by: his parents: Frank and Thelma (Nolen) Mansel; his siblings: Jeneva Mansel, Betty Jean Workman, and Roy Mansel; Son-In-Law Keith McDonald, and special family friend Richard Dodson.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Cedar Crest Nursing Home (new door system fund) in Lawton, or Crossroads Baptist Church, Elgin.
